Queen's Tree

Description

Queen Victoria visited Glenfinnan on Monday the 15th of September 1873. She saw the Glenfinnan Monument and the chapel of St Mary and St Finnan.

This tree was on the west side of the junction between the A803 and the dirt road up Glenfinnan. It is perhaps named for this visit.

She noted in her diary:

Scrambled up a hillock, off the road where we took our luncheon, & I sketched afterwards.

This hillock was perhaps not by the tree, but behind today's visitor centre.

Not far from the tree is the site of the banner unfurling, where there is an engraving into the bedrock celebrating the display of Charles Edward Stuart's royal standard.
